Top Congress leader’s son joins BJP in Maharashtra

Sujay Vikhe Patil with Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis

In a setback to the Congress party in Maharashtra, Sujay Vikhe Patil, son of Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, who is Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly joined the BJP in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Sujay Patil’s decision to jump the ship came after he was denied a seat for the Ahmednagar Lok Sabha seat by the Congress-NCP alliance.  Currently, the seat is held by BJP’s Dilip Gandhi.

The development is expected to further weaken the position of the Congress-NCP alliance as all the opinion polls are predicting a good show of BJP-Shiv Sena combine in the state in the Lok Sabha elections.

Maharashtra has 48 Lok Sabha seats.
