Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) on Saturday joined the chorus to invite Congress president Rahul Gandhi to contest the Lok Sabha poll from a southern state.

TNCC president KS Alagiri is quoted by media as saying that Rahul Gandhi in the poll fray from the state would help bridge the divide between the North and the South, which he said “has increased during the five year period of the BJP government led by Narendra Modi.”

On Friday, Karnataka Congress had put out a similar call on Twitter with the hash tag #RaGaFromKarnataka.

From former chief minister Siddaramaiah to current Dy CM G Parameshwar, several Congress leaders took to the social media site to trend the hash tag.

One of the tweets read: “Two important leaders Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi contested from the state, tasted success & helped India move forward! In this spirit of development, we say yes tom #RagaFromKarnataka for #Elections 2019. Karnatka will be proud to be the state represented by our future PM! (sic)”.

The fact, however, was both Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi came down to Karnataka at a time when the Congress was on a shaky ground in the North.

Does it mean the Congress is convinced that Amethi is no longer safe for Rahul Gandhi? Is the party scouring for a safe seat for its own president?
