Madhya Pradesh Congress has reportedly sought the help of Bollywood megastar Salman Khan to recapture the Indore Parliamentary seat in the General Elections 2019. The constituency has been BJP’s stronghold since 1989, electing Sumitra Mahajan, the current Lok Sabha Speaker, in every single election.
Congress spokesperson in the state Pankaj Chaturvedi revealed on Tuesday that the party leaders had already spoken to the actor over the issue. “We are sure he will campaign for us,” he expressed hope.
Salman Khan was born in the city in 1965 and has spent major part of his childhood years there before his father shifting base to Mumbai.
As the actor has a huge fan following in the city, the Congress hopes to dislodge the BJP in the city using his popularity. Salman Khan, though, has kept himself away from politics thus far. One has to wait and watch if he changes his decision this time around, and if his participation in campaign would make any dent in the BJP’s fortress.
