Sadhvi Pragya Thakur
Bhopal: Sadhvi Pragya Thakur’s claim over her involvement in the destruction of Babri Masjid has apparently landed her the soup, as Madhya Pradesh police on April 21 filed an FIR against her.
The BJP candidate for the Bhopal parliamentary constituency, Sadhvi Pragya made a few controversial statements last week. Two of them also attracted notice from the Election Commission.
In one such statement, she said: “We removed a blot from the nation…. I climbed atop the structure and broke it and I feel extremely proud that God gave me this opportunity. We will ensure that a Ram Temple is built at that place”. The structure was pulled down in December 1992.
In her reply to the EC’s notice Sadhvi Pragya asked if the EC should take note of her statement made when she had not yet filed her nomination. She also said she had no intention to hurt the feelings or create rift between people of different castes and communities. However, Bhopal district election officer Sudam Khade found her answer unsatisfactory.
The FIR filed under IPC Section 188 (for poll code vilation) can lead to a jail term of six months, or fine, or both, if found guilty.
