Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi has been served with a notice by the National Commissioner for Women (NCW) over an offensive tweet on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Vivek Oberoi on May 20 reposted a meme comprising three images of the actress, one each with Salman Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and himself, supposedly likening the three phases of her life with that of Opinion Poll, Exit Poll and the Results of Lok Sabha Elections. The post, obviously an offensive statement on Ashwarya Rai Bachchan’s personal life, attracted severe condemnation on social media, particularly  as it had the picture of her daughter Aaradhya.

Taking a suo moto note of the post, the NCW had asked the actor for an explanation for “carrying the picture of a minor girl and a woman in a picture, making a sly comparison with a woman’s life and poll results”.

The notice contended that the post was extremely offensive and unethical, and it showed “disrespect towards the dignity and respect of women in general”.

Vivek Oberoi has essayed Narendra Modi’s character in the Modi biopic, which is set to hit the screen on May 24.
